Political Officer at the Embassy & Permanent Mission of Denmark in Vienna

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Denmark in Vienna is looking for a dynamic full-time academic staff member to join our bilateral team for 14 months to replace a colleague who will be going on maternity leave.
The Danish Embassy and Permanent Mission is located in the heart of Vienna and represents Denmark’s interests in Austria and in three side-accredited countries: Albania, Slovakia and Kosovo. It also represents Denmark’s interests at the UN and the OSCE.
You will be a part of the bilateral team at the Embassy consisting of five staff members and two student assistants who cover Denmark’s interests in all four countries with a particular emphasis on political and economic developments.
We are looking for a proactive and positive person, who is result-oriented, professional, self-motivated and able to perform in a dynamic working environment, where we continuously strive to support each other, work smarter and have fun.
With the upcoming elections in Austria at the end of September and the upcoming Danish EU-presidency in the second half of 2025 this will be an especially instructive political period.
Tasks and responsibilities:
You will be covering a broad range of issues in relation to Denmark’s bilateral relationships in particular to Austria & Kosovo. You can expect to have a variety of different tasks.
Typical tasks will be:
- Regular monitoring, analysis and reporting on important political developments.
- Conducting research and analysis on various policy areas of interest and relevance to the government of Denmark.
- Supporting delegation visits from Copenhagen, including program and logistics.
- Managing and developing a political network to relevant diplomats from other countries and Austrian state officials.
- Carry out assignments related to public diplomacy in connection with the Embassy’s political work.
- Execute administrative tasks on an ad hoc basis.
You will also possess the flexibility required for an optimal handling of the entire portfolio of the Embassy and be ready to undertake assignments outside your own portfolio as necessary.
Requirements for the position:
- University degree in political science, international politics, international relations, security politics or a similar field.
- Experience/knowledge in the field of politics and economic affairs will be an advantage.
- High degree of personal drive and self-motivation.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams.
- Ability to foster and maintain networks in your field.
- A developed sense of responsibility and ability to plan and prioritize tasks.
- High proficiency in German and English, both oral and written.
- Proficiency in Danish or another Scandinavian language is a clear advantage.
Employment conditions
- You will be offered full-time employment for 14 months on a local contract based on the relevant labour market rules of Austria and the Embassy’s staff rules.
- Your standard working hours will be 40 hours per week.
- You will be entitled to five weeks (25 working days) of paid holiday per year.
- Your salary will reflect your qualifications, experience and proven work-related results.
